Îles de la Madeleine, 9 avril 2025 - Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine is pleased to announce the completion of the first phase of a sustainable development project carried out in partnership with the Eco-Advisory Chair at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC). Over the past year, fourteen member businesses benefited from an in-depth assessment of their sustainability practices.
Under the leadership of Yasmine Benbelaid, postdoctoral intern and research professional, these businesses received a report outlining their strengths, as well as key challenges and opportunities from a social, environmental, and economic perspective. Each business also received a personalized action plan, including recommendations to improve existing practices, such as recognizing eco-responsible actions, promoting employee skills, and diversifying markets.
Looking Ahead to Phase Two: Measuring and Reducing GHG Emissions
The next step of this ambitious project aims to support tourism businesses in reducing their carbon footprint. By developing simple tools to measure and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, this phase will help businesses to:
