With the last days of September came the end of the Défi 100 % local third edition in Les Îles. During this challenge, all participants had to eat food products made or processed exclusively on the archipelago for the whole month of September. Everything was included: fruits, vegetables, meats, spices, alcohols, etc. Far from being short of products, the Défi 100 % local participants highlighted the importance of planning and cooking time for a greater and highly rewarding experience.
With a growing participation rate each year, this time, three families took part in the challenge for the whole month of September. In addition, hundreds of Madelinots joined the initiative during the Journée 100 % locale held on September 23. It was the second edition of the Journée 100 % locale, which is a great opportunity to join the challenge for a day and eat loads of local products. As part of this initiative, the Îles de la Madeleine also challenged other regions of Québec to do the same and promote their bio-food products, and the following regions were up for the challenge: L'Outaouais, La Gaspésie and Les Laurentides!
Building on the growing popularity of the initiative, the people behind the Défi 100 % local - Simon Beaubien and Catherine Grégoire-Couillard - have big dreams for the upcoming editions: "We want to promote the initiative within all of Québec's regions and create a real movement of local consumption." Fall will be a great opportunity to reflect on the past editions, and new developments for the 2018 edition will be announced next spring.
Once again, the Défi 100 % local participants ended up with a belly full of local products and a mind full of ideas for future developments.
