Îles de la Madeleine, November 12, 2014 - It is in front of a hundred members and socio-economic partners of the archipelago that Mr. Michel Bonato, general manager of Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine, announced a stability of the amount of tourists for the year 2014. During that day, Mr. Bonato was being reassuring, saying that the notoriety and brand image of the destination remain very strong.
The few 373 000 unique visitors on the association's website bring the Îles de la Madeleine at the top of Québec's maritime regions regarding the amount of tourists on the web. However, the entries at destination encourage us to consider the conversion rate that will be an integral part of the marketing strategy 2015-2020's update.
The study on the economic impacts of tourism in the Îles de la Madeleine assesses the expenditure at destination at more than 50 million dollars, including the highest rate of average expenditure per stay, considering all Québec's regions. According to Mr. Bonato, the main challenge for the upcoming years is the realization of projects in order to increase the amount of tourists.
Even though tourism development will be very important during the upcoming years, we must say that the landscapes will remain the strongest element of our brand image. Mr. Bonato asked: "As a community, will be strong enough to protect the basis of our tourism product and the branch that we all sit on?"
The conferences held during Tourism Day 2014 are correlated with the words of the general manager: the comparison with the Île de Ré, the development of international cruises and air transportation, the challenges of maritime transportation and the measures that have to be implemented to protect the landscapes of the archipelago.
