Cap-aux-Meules, February 21, 2011 - It is with regret that we must announce the cancellation of the Harp Seal Observation Season, which was scheduled to take place from February 26th to March 14th, 2011.
Strong winds over Eastern Canada for several weeks and temperatures superior to the average of the past decades, of many degrees, is dramatically diminishing the formation of ice in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and around the Iles de la Madeleine.
After many consultations and verifications with experts and according to the weather forecast for the next two weeks, we cannot foresee any improvement in the weather conditions, which is essential to the security of the helicopter movements on the ice, and the Harp Seal Observation that we have been offering for the past 20 years.
The Chateau Madelinot team regrets the inconveniences caused by this decision, necessary to maintain the security of its clients and the personnel related to this activity, unique in the world.

Awaiting the pleasure to serve you again in 2012.
