Discover the culinary wealth of the Îles de la Madeleine: experiences, stories, heritage and local products

It has long been known that the reputation of the Îles de la Madeleine as a leading tourist destination in Québec is well established. The archipelago is renowned for its landscapes, its culture, the quality of its products, and the authenticity of its craftsmen. For the summer season of 2016, the archipelago offers two initiatives showcasing Madelinot culinary craftsmen: the Food Trail and the Tour of Typical Dishes.

First, the Food Trail offers visitors unique gourmet experiences that meet the highest quality standards. In 2016, seven businesses invite you to an experience of discovery and delight: Le Verger Poméloi, À l'abri de la Tempête, Gourmande de Nature, Aucoin des Sangliers, La Fromagerie du Pied-de-Vent, Le Fumoir d'Antan and Le Barbocheux. Visitors will have the chance to meet the craftsmen and discover gourmet stories showcasing the partnerships between the businesses of the Islands.

Second, the Tour of typical dishes allow the discovery of the Islands' culinary heritage through various dishes inspired by local traditions. Within this initiative, dishes and ingredients with historic or heritage content will have a place of honour on the restaurants' menus. In 2016, eight restaurants took part in this approach: Le Café de la Grave, Gourmande de Nature, Le Café la Côte, La Table des Roy, Le Quai 360, Le Café d'chez Nous, La Moulière and Le Bistro plongée Alpha. With the Tour of typical dishes, we invite you to explore the Islands current cuisine in all its originality and authenticity. A testimony to the wealth of the sea and the land, the Islands' culinary heritage is secured by devoted restaurant owners who pay a vibrant tribute to homegrown traditions.

Those initiatives have been created in partnership with Papilles Développement, a firm specialized in farm and food tourism. Created in collaboration with Le Bon goût frais des Îles de la Madeleine and Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine, the approaches regarding the food tourism development on the archipelago are made possible through the financial support offered by the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation and the Entente de partenariat régional en tourisme des Îles de la Madeleine.
